Combine the brown sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Stir in the pineapple tidbits with the syrup. Stir constantly until thickened.
Add the butter, lemon juice, and beets.
Heat thoroughly, about 5 minutes, and serve.
