I’m gonna fess up. Just because I’m having a salad for my lunch doesn’t necessarily mean that I’ve taken a healthier route in my eating. I probably should. I do have a thing about sandwich meat on a salad that I can’t seem to control. So when I made this Firehouse Subs Italian sub in a tub I kinda went crazy with it. This is what happens when I make my lunch when I’m hungry instead of in the morning or the night before. That’s when I should make them. After dinner would be a better time for sure!
All my favorites are in this tub. Salami. Pepperoni. Ham. And of course, provolone cheese. The perfect combination. This is a great way to take an otherwise normal (kinda boring) salad to a better place. A tastier place.

It’s Easy. Super Easy.
Making a Firehouse Subs Italian sub in a tub is really easy. And I so love the end results. I use a combination of iceberg and green leaf lettuces. I chop them into bite-sized pieces but you could tear them instead. All that’s left to do is slice a few sandwich meats and some cheese. A little chopped tomato and onion and I’m ready to eat.
There’s not really rules here. Guidelines, maybe. Suggestions as to what you should add. If you’re going to be strict and really duplicate the sub, you’re going to want to pretty much follow the ingredients below. But you can also treat them as just ideas, adding what else you love as you go!
The Finishing Touches
Oops! Not quite ready to eat yet! I always add a bit of salt and pepper. Well, I have an asterisk to that. If the sandwich meats I use are high in sodium, and they often are, I will skip the salt. But I never skip the pepper.
All I need is my favorite dressing and I’m good to go!

Equipment
Ingredients
- 2 cups lettuce chopped. I use a mix of green leaf and iceberg

- kosher salt to taste
- freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Your favorite salad dressing
Instructions
- Place the lettuce into your tub or onto a plate.

- Slice the cheese and add to the lettuce along with the tomato and onion.
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
