Homer Laughlin Fiesta Salt and Pepper Shakers

Here are some of my Fiesta salt and pepper shakers by Homer Laughlin.  Production began in 1933 and ended in 1969.  I love their ball-shape and think they take a great picture!  The red (orange), one cobalt and one yellow are vintage.  The teal and darker cobalt are new.  Both the salt and pepper have seven holes, but the pepper shaker has smaller holes.

HLCCA Exclusive Juice Pitchers

Here is my collection of juice pitchers from the Homer Laughlin China Collectors Association.  You have to be a member in order to get one. The HLCCA  introduced the pitchers in 1999 and used the 1930s to celebrate the arts and lifestyles of the time.   I don’t have them all, but here is what I do have:

Left to right on the bottom:

  • 1933 pitcher in black, depicting The Century of Progress Exhibition from the 1933 World’s Fair.
  • 1935 pitcher in plum, features “Dish Night at the Movies.” Theaters gave out free pieces of dinnerware to bring in more patrons.
  • 1938 pitcher in scarlet, features the New York Central System’s 1938 20th Century Limited Train.
  • 1940 pitcher in ivory, features Uncle Sam representing the unity of our Nation during the difficult years.

And left to right on the top row:

  • 1934 pitcher in periwinkle, is a tribute to transoceanic travel.
  • 1936 pitcher in tangerine, features Frederick Hurten Rhead, Art Director for Homer Laughlin China and designer of Fiesta dinnerware.
  • 1939 pitcher in cobalt, features the 1939 New York World’s Fair and 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, San Francisco Bay.

Homer Laughlin Fiesta Teapots

Here are two new Fiesta teapots in gray and turquoise.  The green one is a vintage Fiesta Medium Teapot.  The vintage medium teapot was produced from 1937 to early in 1969 by the Homer Laughlin China Company.

Homer Laughlin Suntone

Here is my nice little collection of Suntone made by Homer Laughlin.  Suntone is the same shape as Skytone as I previously posted.  The shape is Jubilee.  As with Skytone, Suntone gets its color from the clay that was used to make it.  The clay was a terra-cotta brown and the glaze was clear.  Suntone was made in the 50s.  Shown is a teapot, creamer and sugar.  The teapot was one of my best finds, as it was a very good price and in mint condition.

Self-Serve Halloween Pumpkin

We usually do something new and different each Halloween. Last year, I painted a large pumpkin with blackboard paint and let the kids sign their names on it when they came up to the door to say ‘Trick-or-Treat’. It was a big hit. This year, we’re trying out a self-serve Halloween pumpkin full of suckers.

You just take a pumpkin, clean it out, and drill small holes into it at a slight angle so that the lollipops don’t slide out on their own. Let the pumpkin dry for a day or two then insert lollipops into the holes. Place by your front door and you have a self-serve trick-or-treat pumpkin! We found that the kids absolutely loved the idea, and we didn’t have any problems with anyone “going to town” and taking armfuls of candy (we live in a great neighborhood).

Self-Serve Halloween Pumpkin

Here are the pumpkins we carved this year. My wife and I always carve up a few pumpkins. It’s a fun thing to sit around doing the night before Halloween. Halloween is and always has been one of my favorite days of the year. If the weather is nice we’ll sit out on the porch and hand out candy to the kids… except when we’re using this self-serve version!

If you end up with leftover lollipops, use them to make my sugar cookie Dum-Dums!

PS: I like to roast my pumpkin seeds on Big Easy! They’re crazy delicious!

Homer Laughlin Skytone/Kraft Blue

Here is my little collection of Skytone along with a couple of pieces of Kraft Blue by Homer Laughlin.  The color comes from the clay that was used in its production and it was made in the 50s.  It came in plain blue and with decals like mine.  I love this blue!  The first picture shows a platter, coffee pot (with the wrong lid, I’m still searching for the right one), sugar and creamer.  The sugar bowl in the center is Kraft Blue.

Homer Laughlin Rhythm Rose

Here is my small Rhythm Rose collection by Homer Laughlin.  The most familiar of the Homer Laughlin Rhythm Rose line is the solid colors of yellow, chartreuse, gray, forest green and burgundy, but it was the basis of decaled lines like Rhythm Rose. Rhythm Rose was produced from the mid 40s through the mid 50s.  Pictured are my pitcher, coffeepot, cream and sugar.

Homer Laughlin Fiesta Two Pint Jug

I’ve been asked numerous times what my favorite piece of Fiesta is, and the answer is my cobalt two pint jug. My Mom gave me this jug.  It sat on top of our refrigerator for years holding odds and ends.  It was my first piece of Fiesta by Homer Laughlin and it sits in my China cabinet front and center.  Also pictured is my two-pint jug in ivory. Production for the two pint jug began in 1936 and ended in 1959.

Homer Laughlin Fiesta Plates

Just some of my Fiesta plates by Homer Laughlin.  I love this picture.  I think it’s artsy and is something I could frame and love looking at.  I just might do that. My hubby took the picture.  Plates are pretty easy to find.  They were produced from 1935 to 1969.

Homer Laughlin Harlequin and Fiesta

Here are some of my Harlequin pieces along with a Fiesta utility tray.  At the top is a Harlequin novelty creamer in turquoise.  The novelty creamer was produced by the Homer Laughlin China Company from 1938 through 1959.

The Fiesta utility tray in red was produced from 1936 through 1946.  The utility tray was used as a base for a sugar and creamer and for serving celery or carrot sticks, relishes and condiments.

My basketweave nut dishes are in maroon, red and turquoise.  Some believe that this was intended as an individual ashtray, but was marketed as a nut dish.  The shape was copied from a Japanese Marutomo ware dish.  Production began in 1938 and ended in 1943.

The individual or toy creamer is one of my favorite Harlequin pieces.  Even though the individual creamer was dipped in Harlequin glazes, it is not believed to be part of the Harlequin line.  Production began in 1939 and ended in 1942. Mine are in red and turquoise.
