These Islander hot dogs are another example of a great dog that doesn’t take a lot of work to put together. Think hot dog. Think salad. Put them together. That’s it! My wife proclaimed these to be one of the best dogs I’ve ever made, even though they are definitely one of the easiest. There’s a great contrast between the grilled beefy dogs, crispy cold lettuce, tomato, and pickle, and tartness from the salad dressing.

Salad… On A Hot Dog?
You could add more of your favorite salad toppings to your Islander hot dogs. Like crumbled cooked bacon. Or chopped onions. Or even croutons! But I have to say that the Thousand Island salad dressing is what really makes these hot dogs different. And special. I really liked the flavor of the dressing on them. It’s something I’ll add more often that’s for sure.
Update: I made these again. I added cubed Monterey jack cheese. Just a few here and there. It made these dogs even more special!

Cookin’ Dogs
Hey, cook the dogs however you want, on whatever you want. Griddle. Grill. Stovetop. Boiled. Broiled. Steamed. Baked. I don’t care. I don’t mean that in a snobby way. I’m just saying you do you. I happen to like mine cooked up on a charcoal grill or in an air fryer. I get a crunchy skin. And I like that. And I can throw the buns on the grill or into the air fryer if I want them toasted (and I do). I often like to cut a thin slit lengthwise down my hot dog before cooking it. That slit will open up a bit as the dog heats. When I put it on the bun, I put the hot dog slit face-up. It gives the toppings a wonderful place to go. And stay. They don’t pop out with each and every bite!
