Cola Milkshake

Coke in a milkshake??? That’s what I was thinking. But then I saw the light. This cola milkshake was fantastic. Easy, of course. The soda adds a malt-like flavor, which I didn’t expect. I guarantee that this milkshake disappeared a lot quicker than it took to make.

I used decaf diet Coke. You don’t want a strong-flavored soda that would overwhelm the ice cream flavors. Regular Coke would work perfectly as well. This cola milkshake is somewhat reminiscent of a float, but with all the flavors in a creamy shake.

Cola Milkshake

I love making and drinking milkshakes. They remind me of my days as a kid when I could drink as many of them as I could find. I have to exercise a bit more control now, but I still enjoy them.

We often make ice cream at home. It’s really easier than I ever thought it would be. We got an inexpensive maker that more than does the job.

Try my chocolate with Nutella, maple bacon (yes, bacon), and old fashioned malted milkshakes.

Chocolate with Nutella Milkshake

I love the flavor of Nutella. That great chocolatey, creamy, nutty taste is great in a milkshake. Perfect on a hot summer day. Or any day for that matter. This chocolate with Nutella milkshake is pretty much a to-taste affair. A little of this, a little of that. It’s not like you can mess it up.  Serve this in a chilled milkshake glass and share it with your Sweetie!  I topped this with whipped cream, toasted peanuts and a maraschino cherry.

For more Nutella goodness, make my Nutella pretzel brownies.

Maple Bacon Milkshake

Well, there are good milkshakes and then there are great milkshakes. And you know that a maple bacon milkshake is great. It has to be. Quality vanilla ice cream, whole milk (no point in using lowfat milk in this milkshake), real maple syrup, and of course, bacon. A few seconds in the blender and into a glass, topped with whipped cream and a little bacon garnish. Absolutely fantastic!

Toasted Peeps Milkshake

My wife absolutely LOVES Peeps. And now they come in so many colors, shapes and sizes! I heard the other day that they’ll soon be available year-round! That means you could make a toasted Peeps milkshake every day of the year!

Toasted Peeps Milkshake

One of the great things to do with Peeps is to melt them down (it’s sort of a sad thing to watch) into syrup for ice cream. Or you can take the Peeps abuse a step further and toast them and then make them into the world’s most awesome milkshake. You’ll never want a milkshake done any other way after you try this.

Ingredients

  • 20 Peeps
  • ¼ cup milk 1% or 2% works fine
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream or more

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray lightly with non-stick spray.
  • Place Peeps on paper and place under broiler for about 40 seconds. Keep an eye on them.
  • Carefully flip the Peeps and return them to under the broiler for another 30 seconds or until lightly browned. You want them lightly toasted. I’ve found that if you toast them too long they melt instead of browning.
  • Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Put all but 2 of the Peeps into a blender with the milk and pulse for 5 seconds.
  • Add the ice cream and process for 10 seconds. Add more ice cream if you want the mix to be thicker.
  • Serve in tall glasses garnished with remaining toasted Peeps.

Old-Fashioned Malted Milkshake

How long had it been since I’d had a real, old-fashioned malted milkshake? Years and years, for sure. What in the world was I waiting for? (And no, milkshakes aren’t just for summer!)

This old-fashioned shake took only minutes to make. I savored it as long as I possibly could. Although I drank (ate?) mostly milkshakes as a kid, malteds are soooo much better. Its like eating a handful of Whopper’s while enjoying a cool shake at the same time.

Ingredients

  • 3 scoops ice cream
  • cup whole milk more or less
  • 2 tablespoons malted milk powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons extract or syrups, to taste (see note)
  • Real whipped cream and cherries for garnish

Instructions

  • Chill a large soda glass while making the shake.
  • Let ice cream soften slightly.
  • Put the ingredients into a blender. Puree until smooth. Add more milk if the mixture is too thick. If it gets too thin, add a bit more ice cream.
  • Serve in the chilled tall glass, topped with whipped cream and cherries.

Notes

Depending on what flavor ice cream you’re using, add vanilla extract, cherry extract, etc. For chocolate you can just add a few squirts of chocolate syrup. If you don’t have any extract or syrup on hand, don’t worry. The shakes will still turn out great!
