Peeps-Stuffed Oreos

The fact that the idea for Peeps-stuffed Oreos came to me in a dream probably says something about me. But, they are as great an idea now as they were at 1am. Fun to make. Fun to look at, a bit gooey and a bit sticky. And oh yes, of course, fun to eat. Use any colors of Peeps you want. You can make a pretty good sized batch in no time. Perfect for Easter, but also perfect to make and eat all by yourself! Why, I didn’t even notice that a few ‘disappeared’ while I was making them…

Peeps-Stuffed Oreos

If you want to make a double-stuffed version of my Peeps-stuffed Oreos, just double the amount of Peeps and place the melted mixture on ALL cookie sides instead of just one. Then just put the two halves together. Bam!

Also try my Peeps chips.

Ingredients

  • 10 Peeps your favorite color
  • 20 Oreos there are about 36 in a 14 1/2 ounce package

Instructions

  • Place Peeps in a medium sauce pan over medium-low heat with a 1/2 tablespoon of water.
  • Separate the Oreo cookie halves.
  • Scrape the filling into the pan with the Peeps.
  • Stirring occasionally, melt the Peeps. Make sure all the lumps are gone and the mixture is smooth.
  • Place half the Oreo cookies logo-side down onto a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper. This will make cleanup easier.
  • Remove the melted Peeps from the heat and let cool just enough so the mixture isn’t runny.
  • Using a 1/2 tablespoon measure, scoop melted Peeps into the center of the cookies. Add just enough that the mixture gets near the cookie edge. If your mixture is too runny (hot) it might run over the sides. You’ll get a feel for it after doing your first cookie or two.
  • Add the remaining cookie halves logo-side up on top of the Peeps-topped Oreos.
  • Let cool completely before serving. You can also stick them in the fridge for 15 minutes to set quicker.

Peeps Chips

Everyone loves Peeps. Heck you can even buy Peeps stuffed toys (I’ve noticed one or two around our house even…). So how about doing something different with Peeps? How about crazy good Peeps chips? They’re crunchy. Very crunchy. And they taste like toasted marshmallows. The kind you get over a campfire. They’re really addicting. And kind of messy.

Peep Chips

These little Peeps chips treats take a bit of work to make, but they’re worth it. You want to dehydrate them over low heat. Our oven’s lowest temperature setting is 170 F, which worked perfectly. Just slide a wooden spoon in between the door and oven frame so that any moisture can escape. Our oven also has a warming drawer which, when set to High, gets to 190 F, which is also fine. Just leave the drawer slightly ajar so steam can escape.

Also try my Peeps-stuffed Oreos.

  • Heat an oven to it’s lowest temperature, 170-190 F.
  • Flatten out the Peeps with your hands, cast iron skillet, spatula… anything you have.
  • Place the flat Peeps onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
  • Insert into oven and let dehydrate for 10 or so hours, turning the pans every few hours. Keep the oven door ajar by placing a wooden spoon between the door and oven frame. You want just enough of a gap so any moisture coming off the Peeps escapes.
  • After 10 hours our Peeps were crunchy on top, but still soft inside. I flipped them and let them go another 2 hours. At that point they were pretty crunchy. I removed them from the oven and let them cool. They then hardened completely.

Toasted Peeps Milkshake

My wife absolutely LOVES Peeps. And now they come in so many colors, shapes and sizes! I heard the other day that they’ll soon be available year-round! That means you could make a toasted Peeps milkshake every day of the year!

Toasted Peeps Milkshake

One of the great things to do with Peeps is to melt them down (it’s sort of a sad thing to watch) into syrup for ice cream. Or you can take the Peeps abuse a step further and toast them and then make them into the world’s most awesome milkshake. You’ll never want a milkshake done any other way after you try this.

Ingredients

  • 20 Peeps
  • ¼ cup milk 1% or 2% works fine
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream or more

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray lightly with non-stick spray.
  • Place Peeps on paper and place under broiler for about 40 seconds. Keep an eye on them.
  • Carefully flip the Peeps and return them to under the broiler for another 30 seconds or until lightly browned. You want them lightly toasted. I’ve found that if you toast them too long they melt instead of browning.
  • Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Put all but 2 of the Peeps into a blender with the milk and pulse for 5 seconds.
  • Add the ice cream and process for 10 seconds. Add more ice cream if you want the mix to be thicker.
  • Serve in tall glasses garnished with remaining toasted Peeps.

Rice Krispies Treats with Peeps Syrup Topping

There I was, sitting here dreaming about the ice cream with Peep syrup we made when it hit me. I bet that melted Peeps (aka Peep Syrup) would be great over Rice Krispies Treats. And it was! Really, how can you go wrong with melted Peeps! Rice Krispies Treats with Peeps syrup topping is awesome!

Rice Krispies Treats with Peeps Syrup Topping

I didn’t feel like making the treats from scratch, so I picked up a box of the already-made kind. They’re dangerously good.

These are easy to make. The Peep syrup adds a nice twist. Try different colors of Peeps for a different look! And just between us, I find that melting Peeps is fun to do. My wife can’t stand the sight of them ‘dying’.

The syrup is also great over ice cream.

Also try my Cheerios nuggets.

Ice Cream with Peeps Syrup

I admit it. I have a strange fascination with melting Peeps. My wife can’t even come into the kitchen when I’m melting them. She just can’t stand seeing them ‘die’. So she was nowhere to be found when I made ice cream with Peeps syrup.

Ice Cream with Peeps Syrup

The other day I made Shamrock Peep Rice Krispies treats that came out rather good. Then I came across this idea to melt Peeps to make syrup for ice cream at the We Are Not Martha blog. Another opportunity to melt Peeps? Sign me up! Heck tried it over Rice Krispies treats too!

For an awesome milkshake made with peeps, check out our toasted peep milkshake. Ice cream is also fantastic topped with my slow cooker dulce de leche.
