Drunken BBQ Chicken Wings

Visit my other site, For The Wing, for all things chicken-wing!

I normally roast my wings in my Big Easy or grill them over charcoal, so I was a little skeptical about this recipe for drunken BBQ chicken wings where the wings are slow-cooked in a Dutch oven. But, to my surprise, the final result was incredibly tasty and oh-so-tender. You’ll love the BBQ sauce on these wings. It’s a very traditional ketchup-based sauce with beer added in for a nice change.

Drunken BBQ Chicken Wings

To get a little crisp and color on my drunken BBQ chicken wings, I put the wings under the broiler for a few minutes after they were completely cooked. You can also cook these wings in a crockpot. You’ll still want to brown them under the broiler a bit before serving. Or better yet, toss them on a hot grill for a bit.

I store my homemade sauces in squeeze bottles. If refrigerated, I set them out thirty minutes to an hour before using so they come to room temperature. You don’t want to put cold sauce on hot food!

Also try my yummy garlic Parmesan wings.

  • 4 pounds chicken wings cut into flats and drumettes, tips removed (reserve for making chicken stock)
  • 1 bottle beer
  • 2 tablespoons your favorite BBQ seasoning

For the BBQ sauce:

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 325 F.

  • Sprinkle with the BBQ rub. Add another layer of wings and rub until all of the wings are in the pot.
  • Slowly add the bottle of beer to the pot.
  • Cover the pot with foil (unless yours has a very tight-fitting lid) and add the lid.
  • Place in oven for about an hour or until the chicken is done, but not quite falling off the bone.
  • Meanwhile, make the BBQ sauce by combining the remaining ingredients in a small pot over medium heat.
  • Whisk to combine.
  • Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and continue simmering for 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat until ready to use.
  • Remove pot from oven.
  • Transfer wings to a rack over a baking pan.
  • Baste wings with the sauce.
  • Place under broiler for a few minutes until starting to brown.
  • Flip wings, baste again, and place back under the broiler for a minute.
  • Flip wings one more time, baste, and place under broiler until they are the color you desire.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

To make these wings in a crockpot

  • Follow the directions above, except layer the wings in the bottom of a crockpot.
  • Cover and cook on low 5-6 hours.
  • Transfer to a rack or baking pan and place under the broiler until golden brown.

Notes

Store leftover wings in the fridge. Reheat in a 325 F oven for 15 minutes.

Rosemary Chicken Wings with Herb Dipping Sauce

Visit my other site, For The Wing, for all things chicken-wing!

These rosemary chicken wings with a herb dipping sauce wings were a fantastic change from traditional Buffalo-like wings. The flavor is just like that of a whole roasted chicken, but served as easy finger food. The herb dipping sauce really complements the herby flavor of the chicken. I served them with Ranch dressing too, but honestly, you won’t need it.

Rosemary Chicken Wings with Herb Dipping Sauce

I made the wings on my Char Broil Big Easy, using the Wingin’ator 3000 modification. You can make them in the oven or on your grill instead.

Also try my rotisserie wings.

Deluxe Teriyaki Wings

Visit my other site, For The Wing, for all things chicken-wing!

Like our other favorite version of teriyaki wings, our deluxe Teriyaki wings disappeared in no time at all. The sauce is a little sweet and sticky yummy. If I’m in a spicy-wings mood I add a bit of red pepper flake to the sauce. If i’m in a very-spicy-wings mood I’ll add hot sauce, Sriracha or hot chili paste.

Deluxe Teriyaki Wings

I cook my wings on my Char-Broil The Big Easy TRU-Infrared Oil-less Turkey Fryer using the Wingin’ator 3000 modification, but you can grill them or cook them in the oven and they’ll come out just fine.

My first version of Teriyaki wings are just as great.

Teriyaki Wing Sauce

This Teriyaki wing sauce is a great dipping sauce for chicken wings. Or toss your wings in the sauce just before serving. This is a slightly sweeter sauce than our other Teriyaki sauce. For some kick, add some red pepper flake. Or for more heat, add Sriracha or hot chili sauce.

Honey BBQ Wings

I’m always cooking up a batch of wings. I usually cook them on my Char-Broil The Big Easy TRU-Infrared Oil-less Turkey Fryer using the Wingin’ator 3000, but sometimes I’ll grill them or smoke them. These fantastic, sticky, sweet honey BBQ wings are great as appetizers or a main dish.

Honey BBQ Wings

We served these honey BBQ wings with our favorite buffalo wing dipping sauce. Because the wings are a little on the sweet side you’ll want to serve them with at least one dipping sauce that has a little kick.

Honey Cholula Wings

Visit my other site, For The Wing, for all things chicken-wing!

Man, these honey Cholula wings came out tasty good. I love my Char-Broil The Big Easy TRU-Infrared Oil-less Turkey Fryer. It’s oil-less, and perfect for chicken or turkey, whole or wings. I use my Wingin’ator 3000 modification, which lets me really load up the cooker with a lot of wings at once. These wings are super moist and tender (thanks to a few hours in my go-to marinade), then tossed with a sweet-n-hot sauce.

Honey Cholula Wings

Of course, you can make these honey Cholula wings in the oven, or directly on your grill and they’ll come out just as great as they did off my Char-Broil Big Easy. Just make sure to have plenty of napkins on hand. Like any good wings, these are good and messy!

Honey Cholula Wing Sauce

This honey Cholula wing sauce is the perfect sauce for chicken wings. A little sweet, a little heat. As much as I like traditional Buffalo wing flavors, this is a welcome change. The hot sauce does not overwhelm, and that’s just what I was looking for.

Honey Cholula Wing Sauce

Sure, you can use other hot sauces when you make honey Cholula wing sauce. I really like Cholula for the flavor and the amount of heat. It’s spicy, but not too spicy. It’s not screaming hot. I think it’s a great middle-of-the-road hot sauce and a pleasure to eat!

Buffalo Wing Marinade

This Buffalo wing marinade recipe makes for good, moist wings, whether you cook your wings in the oven, grill them, or as I usually do on my Weber grill, make them on the Char-Broil Big Easy using my Wingin’ator 3000 modification. The marinade really gives the wings a great spicy flavor without having to sauce them after they are cooked. And even if you do still sauce them, you’ll get flavor all the way through each bite. Not just on the outside.
